Central UK Chapter Meeting
"The Real Risks Of Stolen Laptops"

Topic:

Any large organisation will lose dozens of laptops every year to theft and carelessness, yet few have adequate protection for the data and credentials stored on them.

As an ethical hacker, Peter Wood is called on to test corporate laptops on a regular basis - evaluating the protection of sensitive information and attempting to gain access to head office networks.

Peter will describe his methodology for penetration testing laptops and discuss some recent real world examples. He will show how simple it is to steal confidential and private data, hijack a VPN or plant Trojan software on the majority of unattended laptops.

He will also discuss some straightforward techniques to significantly mitigate this risk and to provide sensible protection to both the laptop contents and the networks to which it connects.
